To cut a long and VERY frustrating story short, Condor, our airline, insisted on us having a return flight out of Costa Rica booked, despite the embassy telling us that a hotel booking in another country would suffice. We had to sprint through Frankfurt airport and eventually found a travel agent who booked us some tickets. A mere $300 later and we were on the plane. Phew.
Anyway, Condor is a horrible airline. It has horrible, rude staff, horrible, cramped seating and a strange flight safety video starring look-alikes. Quite what Marilyn Monroe has to do with a sudden loss of cabin pressure we'll never know.
Arrived in San Jose at about 8am local time, dumped our bags at our hostel before watching the street parade and having a walk around the city. San Jose, as expected, isn't anything to write home about, despite the fact that I am actually writing home about it now. But it is nowt special.
The weather, because that's the only thing that anyone who has read this far really wants to know about, has been warm and humid in the morning, before whopping great monsoon rain arrives to get everything wet, as that kind of 'Hollywood rain' has a habit of doing.
We're off to the country tomorrow (Friday) before spending a night here (thank you again Mary and David).
We'll hopefully get some pics of the Independence Day celebration online soon.
Oh, and we saw our first smoking volcano as we flew into San Jose. Haven't seen any fist-sized insects yet - but they'll come.
